Applying to Kindergarten for Fall 2020

Please read below to learn more about the application process for Kindergarten at Trinity. We do not offer spring tours or Open Houses. Our kindergarten application will reopen on Tuesday, September 8th, 2020.

Step 1: Applications. The Kindergarten application for the 2020-2021 school year is now closed. Please contact Drew Watson, Associate Director of Admissions, K-4 at with any questions.

Step 2: Email ConfirmationAfter you apply, you will receive an email acknowledging receipt of your application. Please read all documents posted in your SchoolAdmin parent portal. These documents contain important information about the process and events. They are also posted here in the Application Downloads box.

Step 3: Parent and Child Visits: Allow time for the Admissions Office to contact you to set up a tour and interview. This might take several weeks. In the meantime, you will receive application status updates via email.

*Regrettably, we are unable to meet all families that apply, even if your application is in by the deadline; (*For more information about our calendar and space limitations please click here.)

Step 4:
Open Houses and Diversity Event: Our Open Houses are optional evening events for parents only and offer the chance to hear from administrators at our school. A Diversity event will also be held in the fall for families interested in learning more about the school’s commitment to diversity and community. All dates are listed in the time line below. Click here for Open House details.
Step 5: School Report: Give the “Permission to Release Records” form to your child’s current school. This enables the school to send us your child’s report this winter. Please do not return this form to Trinity.
Step 6: Classroom Observation: An additional part of our process will include seeing children in a classroom setting, either at their own school or in a Trinity classroom on a Saturday. We will contact you if we need to schedule this type of visit at Trinity.
Step 7: File Completion: All application components should be in our hands by early to mid-January. The “To Do” checklist section of your SchoolAdmin account will reveal if any items are missing. See below for additional process details.

(Note: Personal letters of recommendation are not required; multiple letters are discouraged)

Kindergarten Process Details:

Events: In the early fall, parents are welcome to attend an Open House (no RSVP required) and you may do so even if you have not applied. This event is designed to be as informative as possible and typically involves student speakers, talks from key administrators and time to socialize with current parents. Later in the season, families are invited to attend a diversity event to learn more about diversity and inclusion. (Note: these events are only for this year's prospective applicant families).
Tour: The school tour is small and extensive; as it is parent-led, you will hear a current parent’s point of view and receive a print curriculum guide to review. Two families tour at a time.
Interview: The parent interview is personal and organic. We hope to have an open dialogue with you about our school and your child. Families meet one-on-one with an Admissions officer.
Child Visit: We want to get to know your child as well as possible during their visit (which happens at the same time as yours). We meet with only two children at a time, and work one-on-one with each child. While the visit is not a play date, children will have the opportunity to ask their own questions and do some fun activities.
No ERB Testing: We do not require any standardized testing given by the Education Records Bureau.
Group Observation: A teacher from the Admissions Office will be visiting pre-schools to see children. We will also host Saturday classroom play-groups. If we are unable to observe your child at their school, we will be in touch to schedule a Saturday visit at Trinity.
School Report: We require a current school report from your child’s school. Most early childhood schools already have this report form and will send it to us upon completion. If you are at a school that does not use this format or generate reports at all, please find a blank report form here.  This can be given to your current school, or contact the Admissions Office for an alternative method. (Note: This blank report form must be completed by the classroom teacher and returned directly to our office from the teacher or school administrator.)
