California/Tijuana Border
Madres y Familias Deportadas en Accion strives to connect people along the San Diego/Tijuana border region by fostering relations through community service, education, collaboration and cultural exchange. Students on this program will have the chance to work with the inspiring leaders that run this organization in addition to visiting other organizations in Tijuana. Students will also spend a couple of mornings serving breakfast at El Desayunador and have the chance to volunteer at Casa del Migrante, a shelter and support center for those who have been deported, displaced, are in transit or are refugees. Along the way, students will be exposed to issues of globalization and migration, human rights across borders, and race and racism as they discuss practical and democratic solutions to the complex debates that animate the region.

In our first partnership with Students Shoulder-to-Shoulder, Trinity faculty and students will have the opportunity to engage directly with one of the most critical justice issues facing our world today--how to build a humane and fair immigration process for people in need.
