Learning Support

  • Learning Center 5

These courses are designed to assist in the development of reading and vocabulary, writing and study skills in order to help students reach their academic potential. Students are taught learning strategies that promote the acquisition, organization, retention and communication of information and knowledge. They learn how to apply these skills to homework, class discussions, writing assignments and tests. Individual attention is given to building skills in mathematics where needed. The learning specialists meet with students in small groups, usually of five or fewer. The learning specialists also serve as the coordinators and liaisons with teachers, parents, and outside support services. Students requiring math support meet in small groups with the math specialist, during early morning sessions, learning center, during Ad Hoc, or during assigned study halls. To support students who require additional reinforcement of skills, the math learning specialist coordinates her work with that of the MS math teachers and, at times, with tutors.

Taken with permission of the Principal, this course replaces one of the modern languages usually taken by students.
