Open Inquiry & Viewpoint Diversity at Trinity

Dear Members of the Trinity Community,

We write to share an update on the previously announced, independently led, review of institutional protocols and practices encouraging open inquiry and expression of viewpoint diversity at Trinity.

Last fall, the Board of Trustees retained Strategic School Leadership (SSL), a leading consultancy with deep independent school expertise, for this review following an unfortunate videotaped interaction between a former administrative staff member and Project Veritas. SSL worked closely with an Advisory Committee comprised of parents, faculty, and trustees, and undertook an extensive review that included campus meetings with numerous members of the Trinity community and a survey of students, faculty, staff and parents. SSL then conducted 28 focus group sessions with students, faculty, and parents across the Lower, Middle, and Upper Schools to discuss the results of the survey and seek input on how Trinity might implement necessary changes.

SSL’s report on its findings and recommendations has been posted to Trinity’s website and may be found here. We received an extraordinary level of participation in the survey.  We are profoundly grateful to the 1,200+ members of our community who engaged in this process and took the time to complete the survey. We are also grateful to SSL for its thoughtful partnership in supporting us in these important efforts.

In response to the report, the School has already begun discussing the right way forward.  Immediately in front of us is the task of assembling an Advisory Group, as per the SSL recommendations.  This group will be convened in the coming months and will begin thinking through our approach. It is abundantly clear to us that a thoughtful response to the areas of concern raised by the report will require not just time and energy, but also creativity and conscientiousness.  Together, this report, the ARTF recommendations, and Trinity Vision 2028 will be our guideposts moving forward.  We are committed to doing right by these three vital efforts on behalf of our entire community.

In the meantime, if you have questions or suggestions, please do not hesitate to reach out to the Board or the senior administrative team as we continue this critical work for the betterment of the Trinity community.

Sincerely,

John Allman David Perez
Head of School President, Board of Trustees
